Are you living Psalm 33:21?

Psalm 33:21 says “In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.”

A lot of people know what superficial happiness is. They think their huge paycheck, boat, expensive home, or their prestigious job title have brought them happiness. When asked, many people say, “sure, I’m happy.” But, when they start to think about it, they realize that were the money to disappear, they wouldn’t be happy anymore.

A Christian who studies and knows the Word of God knows that there is a deeper happiness, one in which regardless of the circumstance, even if you’re about to lose everything or you feel unwanted, unloved, or just plain exhausted that deep inside your heart, you still have reason to rejoice. The Christian can have all sorts of possessions or none at all and be equally happy, knowing that God is the true source of joy.

God designed us with a purpose, and part of that purpose is to be happy. He doesn’t want mopey, lazy people working for His Kingdom! He wants us to be infused with His righteousness and His joy so that when we go out into the world, we are such a bright light in a dark world that nothing can bring us down. He wants joyful, happy, enthusiastic Kingdom-workers!

If someone came up to you who didn’t know the Gospel, and they saw that you were full of complaints, full of fear, full of paranoia, and full of any kind of negativity, do you really think they’d want to accept your Jesus?

There are enough unhappy people in the world, and quite honestly, they should be unhappy if they don’t know Jesus. On the flip side, if you do know Jesus, you ought to be the happiest person around.

Last night after worship, we got into a conversation about music. We got onto the topic of the Marcos Witt concert that was held a couple months back. His newest CD is called “Alegria” which means “Happiness” in Spanish. Marcos Witt ministered to the people in song and explained that he’s noticed that a lot of Christians aren’t happy these days, or at least don’t show it. Come on, people of God! Let’s show the world what kind of transformation Jesus has made in us and rejoice knowing that indeed we who have accepted Him for who He is, the Lord of all and Savior, we are SAVED!

(yes, that’s a reason to rejoice!)
