Did your boyfriend or girlfriend just dump you?
You might need a reassuring word today.
I don’t know who “they” are in your life. A friend for years, a boyfriend, a girlfriend, a parent, a co-worker, a teacher, an acquaintance, somebody of influence to you.
Have “they” rejected you?
Whoever it is, if you are following Jesus, that person or group of people hasn’t rejected you- they have rejected God.
Look at 1 Samuel 8:7 “The Lord said to Samuel, ‘Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.”
In countries that are hostile to Christianity, it is not uncommon for a family to totally reject a family member for having converted to becoming a follower of Jesus Christ. That family thinks they are just rejecting their loved one, but really, they are rejecting the God who now dwells inside of that newly converted individual.
Maybe you just lost your job, got fired for no good reason and now you feel all alone. Do you realize that you might be suffering persecution as a Christian? The enemy tries to tear down Christians all over the place, but Christian brother or sister, you have don’t you let that get to you. It isn’t you the enemy hates as much as Jesus who lives inside of you. The world has rejected your God.
Did you just break-up with somebody and you feel rejected, sad, and lonely? God is with you. He is your Friend and He will wipe away your every tear. Remember, He has someone special out there for you, so if it was someone you were dating, don’t worry about it (but I know that’s a ton easier to say…you probably don’t feel that way right now.) But remember this, if you were living a Christian lifestyle and now you can’t be with that person, it could be that they couldn’t handle the presence of God in your life. They haven’t rejected you – you are a beloved child of God. They have rejected the God you serve.
Samuel had been called by God at the young age of about 8. He had experienced rejection in his life, but God told him that it really wasn’t about Samuel at all, it was all about Him, about God.
Whenever you feel upset, the temptation is to let it become all about you. You know what happens then? You get mushed into the quicksand that develops into depression. Its an evil trick of the devil that is very easy for any of us to fall into. But, remember, it isn’t at all about you. This life is all about Jesus, who gave us life, who gives us life, and who will give us eternal life if we give our hearts to Him.
When you reject the depression that wants to fool you into thinking that you have been rejected and that you are all alone, when you reject IT, you begin to walk in victory in the life Jesus has given you.
So do not let your heart be troubled nor let it be afraid. You aren’t rejected, friend. God has accepted you as His son/daughter and He loves you very much.
