There is 1 Stipulation: Jesus says you can’t sin anymore. John 8:11

We just saw “The Final Inquiry” a new movie that everyone really needs to see; affirming the Truth that true disciples of our Lord will carry on Jesus’ message and glorious works. Go rent it, seriously, you won’t be disappointed!

Movies in recent years have beautifully portrayed Biblical times and scenes. Many are so touching, but others are what some consider disturbing – some people haven’t wanted to see the “Passion of the Christ” because of all the blood – but my friends, what the movie portrays isn’t half that of what Jesus went through. It should disturb us. His gruesome death was a direct result of our sin. And yet we keep sinning.

Here in America sin is not a popular topic. People say that they’ve had enough of fire and brimstone teaching and they think that since God is love they are forgiven and have nothing to worry about.

The consequence of sin is death. God is Love – but you are not forgiven unless you ask Him to forgive you and ask Jesus into your heart. So if you haven’t accepted Christ, you do have something to worry about.

What often happens is Christians stop at that. So, they accept Christ and figure now they are fine. “No worries!” If you’ve seen any of the recent Christian movies, they always portray an adulterous woman – either being stoned or depicting the time when Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and forgave the woman.

Imagine yourself in that position. Maybe you have committed such a sin. Are you a wife who occasionally flirts with other men, or are you a married man sleeping with another woman? This is serious stuff, but we’re well aware it happens all the time. The devil is trying to ensnare you and destroy you and your marriage. And it will be destroyed if you give in and you don’t repent. You have got to get yourself together! You have got to stop the cycle of sin. You have got to ask Jesus to forgive you and set you free from the evil chains that bind you. Imagine yourself at Jesus’ feet and His Spirit flowing over you, washing you clean of your guilt, and you feel that liberation that can only be found in Him. Its wonderful.

But there’s a stipulation.

Here’s a review of the story in case your Bible is dusty: Jesus was teaching in the Temple when the scribes and Pharisees brought an adulterous woman to the center court. They accuse her and want to stone her to death according to the Law, Jesus instead writes on the ground, and then He says whoever is without sin may throw that first stone. Nobody is without sin, so they file out, and when Jesus is alone with the woman, He tells her that He doesn’t condemn her — but then He says: “From now on, sin no more.”

You can be alone with Jesus, right now. You can tell Him what sin you have committed. He already knows, but He wants to hear your honest confession. Go to that secret place where it is just you and Jesus.

And ask for forgiveness. He will give it to you, but you have to have a broken, sincere heart.

And He’s going to instruct you: you are forgiven, but you can’t keep this up. You can’t sin anymore, friend.

What do you need to be free of tonight? What compulsions do you have that need to be broken?

Maybe you have already accepted Jesus, but you are still living with a hidden sin, something secret, dark, that you don’t want anyone to know about. We don’t have to know. Jesus already knows. And He’s the only One who can heal you.

You might even be the pastor of a church, but you have been doing wrong before the Lord and using your leadership in an abusive way. It is time to repent. You know the Word. You’ve got to get yourself right – you know better, and you know that the Word says that pastors will be held to a high standard. Do this for yourself. Repent, brother. Repent, sister. Its not too late. God will heal your family, your church, whatever it is that is hurting right now. He will heal your heart and restore you, if you will let Him.

Are you far from God today/tonight? Now is your opportunity to be set free and washed in His Living Water. Confess your sins before your Father in heaven, ask Him to forgive you, and accept His Son, Jesus Christ into your heart. And then, do as Jesus teaches us: Sin no more.
